A prisoner at Rimutaka Prison near Wellington has been charged with the attempted murder of another prisoner.
Police said a 45-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged assault in the prison on July 31.
He is due to appear in Hutt Valley District Court on August 13.
The victim remains in hospital recovering from his injuries.
Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter.
