An Auckland prison guard is understood to have been stabbed in the head during a gang-related attack by three inmates at Paremoremo Prison yesterday afternoon.
Corrections today confirmed that a staff member at the prison was injured when he was assaulted by three prisoners with improvised weapons in what appeared to be a gang-related incident.
The Herald understands the attack took place around 2.30pm in the prison's B Block, and that all prisoners had been locked down in their cells until 8am today.
B Block was understood to still be in lockdown for cell searches, and the Herald has been told B Block inmates were protesting loudly about being locked up in cells.
Inmates in A Block inmates were also reported to have been locked down from 11.30am to 3pm for officers to assist in B Block.
