Prison guard accused of sex assault on minor

A Wellington women's prison male guard has been suspended from work after being charged with the sexual violation of a 12-year-old girl.

Shane Allan Sampson, 46, was arrested on Thursday night and was bailed to his Titahi Bay, Porirua, address when he appeared in Porirua District Court yesterday, The Dominion Post reported.

It is alleged he indecently assaulted and sexually violated the girl away from the prison on May 15.

The Corrections Department said that Sampson came into contact with women in his work at Arohata Prison but there had been no known complaints from any inmates.

He is due to reappear in court next month.
