A Hamilton man who "wreaked havoc" for three-weeks after escaping from Tongariro-Rangipo Prison in April is appealing his sentence.
Anthony White, 22, was jailed for three years and three months last month on charges including escaping prison, burglary, theft and fraud.
The sentence came on top of one White was already serving for burglary and aggravated robbery.
White's father Chris, who made a national appeal for his troubled son to be found and sent back to prison, criticised the sentence as being too tough.
He said his son's deafness and mental health problems had never been addressed.
White's appeal will be heard in the High Court at Hamilton tomorrow.
