Prison escapee flying under the radar

Police hunting Kevin Polwart are surprised that he has not turned his escape into a game.

The convicted armed robber cut his way out of Auckland Prison at Paremoremo on December 16th. It is his second successful jailbreak after he spent 41 days on the run in 2001.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kim Libby says last time he escaped, Polwart taunted police and updated the media on his movements. He says they were expecting the same this time, but they have heard absolutely nothing from him.

Mr Libby believes Polwart is going to great lengths to avoid detection.

He suspects Polwart has either fled up north to family or is staying with friends in Wellington.
