A waterfront mansion with panoramic views of Mt Maunganui's surf beach is selling for the princely sum of $8.5 million - a record price for a home in the Bay of Plenty.
Located beachside on the Golden Mile of the Mount's exclusive Marine Parade, the brand new home, which is sprawled across a 1401sq m section, has not been lived in.
With tennis courts, a pool, three bathrooms, four double bedrooms, four toilets and a four-car garage, the 606sq m house was a "one-off", said real estate agent Ron Pearse.
Pearse said properties on the seaside stretch, a stone's throw from one of New Zealand's most popular beaches, came on the market sporadically.
"But this is a one-off. There's nothing like this in the Mount to compare it to. It's quite a majestic property."
Two interested buyers have already called Pearse - a local man and an Aucklander - despite the first advertisement being a humble sign staked on the grass verge only four days ago.
A successful sale would pass the previous record for a Mt Maunganui property of $6m, paid for a bare 803sq m site in 2004.
Previously, $4 million was paid for a 670sq m corner site on Marine Pde.
