Prince Harry, left, reportedly made a 354km round trip to watch England's Rugby World Cup match on television - only to be left gutted at the result.
Harry, 27, drove to San Diego from his new air base in California to find a bar showing the World Cup quarter-final against France. The Prince is in the US for Apache helicopter training.
Drinkers at the Andaz Hotel said that he banged the table in frustration at England's defeat to France, 12-19.
British man Dick Thompson, 44, said: "He arrived in good spirits but it wasn't long before he looked fed up, and by the end of the game he had his head in his hands."
