Japan's Prince Akishino, second in line to the Chrysanthemum Throne, visited Auckland's tourist spots yesterday afternoon during a brief stopover in New Zealand.
Japanese officials described his visit as "incognito".
The Prince visited Kelly Tarlton's Underwater World before heading to the gannet colony at Muriwai Beach, where he took several photographs. (He has a PhD in ornithology.)
The 39-year-old, who has been to New Zealand before, did not meet any dignitaries.
He was in New Zealand for one night after visiting Paraguay, where he had been on an official visit.
He is the second son of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.
