KEY POINTS:
The union for primary school teachers has reached a pay settlement with the Education Ministry.
The New Zealand Educational Institute has been in negotiations with the ministry over a collective agreement since August. Teachers wanted an extra $36 million each year for additional services, such as special needs teachers.
But NZEI national secretary Lynne Bruce will not say what has been agreed upon until members are notified next week. She says the union is recommending ratification.
