A Catholic priest who defaced an Israeli monument during a protest has escaped conviction after completing tasks set by police to earn a diversion.
Father Gerard Burns, of Porirua, was charged with wilful damage after he mixed a drop of his blood with paint and smeared it on the Yitzhak Rabin peace memorial in central Wellington during a January protest against the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
