Feeling a bit flat? Think you've had a bad day?
Spare a thought for this poor thing that was snapped on State Highway One, just near Hikurangi on Tuesday afternoon after a brush with the machine laying new road markings.
Photographer Michael Cunningham snapped the hapless hedgehog as he was heading back to Whangarei and mused that it was among the more unusual roadkill he had seen - he'd never seen one before painted with a white stripe.
What's not exactly clear is if the hedgehog was already dead when it received it's new marking.
What unusual things have you found beside our highways and byways?
