KEY POINTS:
Mercury Energy has raised its prices by nearly five per cent for some customers.
Customers living on the North Shore and as far north as Wellsford are facing price hikes of 4.9 percent or an extra $6.30 to the average monthly power bill.
Mercury Energy general manager James Munro said the price rise north of Auckland was a culmination of an increase in Vector's lines charges and energy prices.
For customers living in central Auckland, as far south as Papakura, prices will increase by 2.2 percent or an extra $2.70 on power bills.
Mr Munro said not all customers will be affected by the price rises.
"The only electricity price rise we are making will put customers on the North Shore, West Auckland and north of Auckland on an even footing with those in Central and South Auckland.
"All other increases are due to price hikes from lines companies being passed through to customers on Mercury Energy's bills," Mr Munro said.
