Wairarapa all-rounder Brock Price blazed a century as Lansdowne went on a run-scoring spree on the first day of their Bidwell Cup senior men's inter-club cricket match with Wairarapa College at Wairarapa College on Saturday.
Price peppered the boundary in his knock of 132, taking full toll of a placid pitch which was a batsman's paradise.
Giving him solid support were Robin James (45), Corey Anderson (48) and Choi Jackson (39) and Lansdowne were able to close their first innings at a very
healthy 339.
Just back from playing for Central Districts in the provincial A tournament in Christchurch where he was one of his team's most consistent batsmen with one score in the 60's and three in the 30's, Wairarapa skipper Sam Curtis had a busy time at the bowling crease for Wairarapa College on this occasion. He bowled 31 overs of leg spin on the trot and finished with 6-134.
It was Curtis again who took the limelight when Wairarapa College commenced their first innings, getting through to 50 not out as they reached 95-1 at stumps.
The first day's play in the Rathkeale Cricket Academy and Red Star match at the Pugh Sports Bowl was a somewhat dour affair with Academy electing to bat right through the day . Their score stood at 281-7 when play ended with the top scorers being Andi McElnea (66) and Steve Coleman (72).
Red Star had a depleted attack and there were long stints from spinners Shay O'Gorman and Brad Edwards. O'Gorman finished with 2-65 from 31 overs and Edwards 2-62 from 28 overs. Also toiling well was medium pacer Willie Thomson who finished with 3-49 from 18 overs.
In the other scheduled Bidwell Cup fixture Rathkeale College defaulted to Greytown.
