KEY POINTS:
It's certainly the quickest price realignment of the year. Motorcorp Distributors Limited (MDL) launched the all-new V70/XC70 wagon range in New Zealand at the end of last month, but within a week it had knocked up to $5000 off the new cars' price tags.
The 3.2-litre six cylinder petrol V70 is now $69,990, a reduction of $5000. The XC70 with the same motor has also dropped $5000 to $79,990, while the XC70 turbo diesel now carries a sticker of $82,990, instead of $84,990.
"We have been negotiating with Volvo over the pricing of the V70 and XC70 for some time," says Mark Patterson, general manager of the Volvo Division of MDL. "Those discussions were not finalised at the time of the launch.
"We can now confirm the new pricing following the successful completion of the negotiations."
All new V70s and XC70s will be sold at the new prices and anyone who purchased the vehicles at the prices initially announced will receive a rebate.
As with previous iterations of the V70, the third-generation model puts practicality first.
The integrated rear child seats are adjustable in two steps, while the back seat itself is split into three parts - 40/20/40 - providing a variety of extended load options.
The luggage compartment has aluminium rails and movable anchorage points. The anchorage points can be tucked down into the rails when not in use. The built-in anchorage eyelets in the side panels keep luggage securely in place.
Also, the side panels can be equipped with multi-functional rails, making it possible to attach hooks, load-anchoring nets and cargo space dividers among other loading accessories.
The XC70 version features higher ground clearance and off-road-style exterior details.
