The Court of Appeal has imposed preventive detention on a man originally given a finite jail term for vicious sex offences against a child.
Jarred James Hutchison was jailed in the High Court at Auckland in June last year for 13 1/2 years with a minimum period behind bars of 7 1/2 years.
Hutchison, now 34, was convicted of the repeated rape and violation of a child over a five-year-period starting when she was 3. Hutchison was living in a de facto relationship with the girl's mother.
