A burglary at the Manurewa Women's Refuge has spoiled Christmas for workers and the mothers and children seeking shelter.
On Tuesday, thieves cleaned out the safe house run by Te Whanau Rangimarie.
Dozens of Christmas presents for children in the local community were stolen, with a new fridge, computers, linen and even office and kitchen equipment.
Manager Chic Cooper said while many presents had been replaced through generosity, the Christmas feast had been canned.
"We went through a range of emotional feelings but nothing you can do is going to change anything," she said.
