Creevey told the couple she knew the mafia in Australia and would get them to kill her mother and stepfather.
Later the same day, she took a claw hammer from the kitchen and confronted the male victim.
She "waved" the hammer over her head and continued the swearing and threatening.
Between August 1 and August 5, Creevey used her mother's credit card details to buy food and accommodation, racking up a $548 bill.
Her mother had a terminal illness at the time and had since died, the court heard.
"Your counsel said you were providing for your basic needs," Judge Crosbie said.
"The irony is it happened after you fell out with your family, who were trying to do the same thing."
On bail, Creevey amassed further charges related to spats with family members, cannabis and shoplifting from two Nelson stores.
She also stayed at Dunedin motels for which she gave false details and avoided paying.
The court heard how she had stolen the hair dryer, soap dispenser and other items from one of the rooms.
She had sought a sentence of home detention but there was no address available at which she could serve the term.
"It means she's going to give birth while in prison," Judge Crosbie said, prompting tears from Creevey who appeared for the hearing by video link from Christchurch Women's Prison.
The judge noted the woman's only previous criminal blemishes were two drink driving convictions.
"You've landed in court with a thud," he said.
Judge Crosbie put it down to "a combination of residual family issues, anger, poor choices with relationships and it would appear some substance abuse issues".
He locked Creevey up for 18 months.
Once released, she said she wanted to resume her relationship with her baby's father, who is serving a six-month home detention sentence.
