A mum-to-be airlifted to Waikato Hospital during today's floods has given birth.
The Waikato Westpac Rescue Helicopter was sent to Thames Hospital this morning to transport a woman in labour.
A spokeswoman for the Waikato District Health Board said the mother was exhausted and recovering. The sex of the baby has not been released.
Pilot Dan Harcourt said the woman had been in labour for about six hours when the call was made to chopper her to Hamilton.
He said there was concern over increasing road closures and surface water delaying her delivery to Hamilton if she was taken by road.
