A pregnant drug addict who pleaded guilty to drug possession has been sentenced to a prison term.
Tania Maylee Anderson, 38, a mother, had earlier pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine.
In the Whangarei District Court yesterday, Judge Lindsay Moore jailed Anderson, who is seven months pregnant, for nine weeks.
However, Anderson has been custody since August, when she was arrested while on bail, charged with possession of precursor substances.
Taking into account the time she has already served, she is due to be released next Wednesday.
She still faces a second charge.
Judge Moore said Anderson had been addicted to cannabis for 20 years and had added methamphetamine to the mix.
"If I send her home she'll just go back to the drugs."
