A pregnant woman went into labour after crashing a car, swearing at police and refusing to give a blood sample, Tauranga District Court was told.
Tracey Anne Mahu, 30, of Napier, was 25 weeks pregnant when she had an early-morning crash in Mt Maunganui last August, throwing the front-seat adult male passenger through the window. He received head injuries.
On Monday Mahu admitted a charge of dangerous driving causing injury and a further charge of refusing to give a blood sample to police.
She refused a police request for blood at Tauranga Hospital. She then went into labour. It was not revealed in court what happened to the child.
Mahu, who has been prosecuted twice before for failing to provide a blood sample to police, will be sentenced on March 22.
