Power has been restored to Napier after a felled tree shortcircuited a cable supplying electricity to more than 21,000 people this morning.
Unison Networks customer services manager Danny Gough said the major outage happened at about 9.30am when a landowner felled a tree onto a 33,000 volt power line.
That "tripped out" one of the main substations supplying power to Napier, he said.
The cut affected 21,248 people in suburbs throughout the city for up to an hour.
All power was back on bay 10:30am.
Mr Gough said Napier's CBD was not affected by the outage.
