Power that went out for almost half the population of Tauranga around 11:50am has been restored, though it remains out in other parts of the Western Bay of Plenty.
The cause for the outage has been given as 'severe weather conditions'.
There have been regular wind gusts of 90 kilometres an hour in the area since mid morning.
