Power has been restored to much of quake-damaged Marlborough, although water is yet to come on in some of the worst-hit areas.
Council building inspectors have travelled across the district completing almost all initial assessments of damaged properties.
Marlborough Emergency management said the historic St Oswald church at Wharanui has been red stickered.
The military were now monitoring roads in the Ure Valley and Ward area.
Police remained at a checkpoint on State Highway 1 south of Ward, allowing tradespeople into the area.
The road further south of the township remained closed.
The Marlborough District Council said electricity had been restored as far south as the Ure River.
Ward's water supply was still not yet restored and water was being delivered to the township.
Residents in Seddon and Ward were still being asked to boil all drinking water.
Other towns on the council water supply, including Blenheim, Renwick and Havelock did not need to boil their water.
Public health staff in the Ward area were advising residents what to do if their septic tanks were damaged.
Today's forecast bad weather, which was due to hit this afternoon, was expected to disrupt ferry services.
