Power lines have fallen down, blocking a South Island state highway.
State Highway 6, Lower Shotover is closed after a number of power lines fell down, police said.
Police officers were working to establish the cause while the power company worked to make sure the area was safe.
No one was injured but motorists were asked to avoid the areas near Tucker Beach Rd.
Diversions were available via Arthur's Point.
