Power cuts in Invercargill today

Invercargill has had two unrelated power cuts this morning. They both occurred just after 9.30am.

The first blacked out 1,200 people in the outskirts of the CBD. Most customers were back on line just before 10am but 100 customers are still without power.

The second affected 1,033 customers in the CBD. All customers apart from one had their power back on by 10:30am

PowerNet network operations general manager Gary Pritchard says the two power outages seem to be coincidental.

Engineers are investigating the cause of the cuts.
