KEY POINTS:
A power cut this morning plunged central Wellington businesses into darkness, including the energy company responsible for providing power.
Vector Electricity spokeswoman Philippa White told NZPA the outage at 8.30am affected The Terrace and Bolton Street.
She did not have the details of the cause, but it was "third party damage" which meant it was not the fault of the company.
"Vector is working to get power restored, and they are doing that progressively.
Ms White said she was not sure how long it would take to fully restore power and did not know how many businesses were affected.
