Two men have been arrested after a car fleeing police crashed into a transformer, cutting power in the south Auckland suburb of Takinini early this morning.
The brief pursuit started shortly after 2am when a police patrol spotted the car travelling at high speed down Great South Rd, Inspector Andy Brill of police northern communications said.
"They did a u-turn and within a couple of seconds the vehicle made a turn off Great South Rd and ploughed into a power transformer, and put a fair bit of Takinini in darkness," he said.
One man was arrested at the scene and a second man ran off. He was later caught by a police dog handler.
No injuries were reported in the crash.
