KEY POINTS:
Several retailers and homes were without power in the upmarket Auckland area of Newmarket this afternoon.
Vector Energy spokeswoman Philippa White said about 1800 customers from the north end of Newmarket to the top of Parnell Rd, less than 1km to the north, lost power about 12.30pm.
"At this stage the cause is unknown but we have got crews investigating and we are doing our best to get power restored."
By 2pm all but 300 of the customers had their power back on.
Ms White said today's cut was totally unconnected to the Transpower outage which afflicted parts of Auckland from Mt Wellington to Newmarket on February 3.
Ms White said most of the Newmarket retail area, from the Broadway-Khyber Pass area south, were not affected, but some retailers north of that intersection were without power.
Some of the parts of Newmarket which were hit on February 3 lost their power today.
