Life is beginning to return to normal for people on the Coromandel Peninsula.
Powerco has restored a 66,000-volt cable which was brought down in last night's storms and cut supply to 9,500 customers.
It means the majority of people cut off around Whitianga and Coromandel townships are now getting power again.
Repairs are also being completed to a number of other faults, so at the moment, around 1,500 homes are still without electricity.
Powerco says they should all be back on again this afternoon.
