Police are questioning a man after an armed robbery at a central Christchurch post shop this morning.
Police were called to the Tower Post Shop, near the intersection of Victoria and Salisbury streets, about 8.30am after staff reported they had been held up by a man wielding a handgun.
A man was found a short time later after abandoning a stolen car allegedly used to leave the post shop, swapping it for a stolen pushbike.
Inspector Michael Coulter, of police southern communications, said the man ran across several inner city properties after abandoning the car, changed his clothes, and then stole the bike.
Police caught the man while he was escaping on the bike. His clothing and the stolen money was found in one of the properties he had run through.
The man is still being interviewed and has not yet been charged.
