Post-quake insurance cover available again

Getting new home and contents cover from most major insurance companies is now available again for Wairarapa residents.

Because of recent earthquakes and aftershocks in the area, many insurance companies had temporarily halted new cover in the Wellington region.

This was reported by Times-Age in Tuesday's edition.

Shortly after, AA Insurance and IAG's brands State, NZI and AMI lifted the restriction on the Wairarapa region. They are now issuing new home and contents insurance policies.

However, IAG brands will continue to exclude new insurance policies within Marlborough, Wellington City, Porirua, Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt.

"We certainly understand customers who have had frustrations with not being able to extend cover to take new cover over this time.

"But as you see it is a very dynamic situation and we need to be cautious," said Craig Dowling, IAG's head of corporate affairs.

He said excluded districts would return to normal "at the appropriate time".
