A post mortem was due to be carried out this morning on the body of a man found on an Auckland cycle track soon after midnight.
Ambulance officers said the man was dead when they arrived at the cycle track near Bond St, close to the north western motorway about 12.40am.
The body was found beneath a motorway overbridge next to the cycle track.
A tent was erected over the body until it was removed for the post mortem examination.
Police said the man's death was unexplained and was being treated as suspicious at this stage.
The man was Caucasian in his mid to late 30s.
Bond Street was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic while police completed a scene examination and reopened shortly after daylight although the footpath remained cordoned off.
The identity of the man and details of his death had not been released.
Police appealed for anyone in the area just after midnight or who saw anything suspicious to come forward.
