Post mortem due today on body of diver

A post mortem was due to be held today to establish the cause of death of a diver found dead on the seabed at Little Barrier Island in the Hauraki Gulf.

Paul Lewis Parkinson, 38, from Kohimarama in Auckland, disappeared about 1.20pm yesterday during a spear diving trip.

His body was found on the southern end of Little Barrier Island about 4pm.

It is believed a safety person was in the boat but it was not known if the dead man was diving alone or with a companion.
