Charges could be laid against both drivers involved in a Christmas Day crash in Hamilton that left a woman dead, police say.
Rongmei Wang, a 71-year-old Chinese national, was a back seat passenger in a car that collided with a ute at the intersection of Avalon Drive and Te Rapa Rd at 12.35pm.
Four of Ms Wang's family members were taken to Waikato Hospital following the crash.
Police later located a suspended driver who had allegedly fled the scene. A member of the public followed the vehicle, leading police to the 26-year-old woman at an address in Hamilton.
"Anytime anyone is involved in a motor vehicle crash, they are required by law to stop to ascertain injury. It's a legal requirement and if they fail to do so they are likely to be prosecuted," Waikato road policing manager Inspector Marcus Lynam said.
