Police are following up information received today after they appealed for help to catch a knife-wielding man who robbed an Auckland bank last week and may be behind two similar incidents over the past six months.
The man walked into the National Bank in the suburb of Mt Albert just before 4pm on Friday, presented a knife and demanded money from staff,
He walked away with an undisclosed amount.
Police are concerned the man might strike again and said it was hard to predict how he might react if confronted.
Since CCTV footage of the man was published, police had received a number of calls, Detective Sergeant Pete Steward told NZPA.
"We've had a number of calls from people across Auckland who think they might recognise him, and we're following up some positive lines of inquiry," Mr Steward said.
Police described the man as Maori or Polynesian, aged between 25 and 35.
Mr Steward said Friday's robbery was similar to two other incidents - both robberies at National Bank branches - one in Onehunga on July 23 and the other in Dominion Road, Mount Eden, on November 5.
Both robberies happened on a Friday.
