KEY POINTS:
PrimePort Timaru workers remain in the dark over their futures, following the port announcing five weeks ago more than half of its trade was to go.
Late in March, three of the port's major customers, Maersk Line, Hamburg Sud and Tasman Orient, went public with plans to reduce services.
Rail and Maritime Transport Union Timaru branch president Peter Clemens told the Timaru Herald its members were deeply concerned about their future and a meeting with management yesterday had not shed any light on what was to happen.
"The bottom line is no one really knows what is going to happen," he said.
The union represented about 80 watersiders, half of whom were full-time and half part-time or casual.
"Looking at the big picture, they say 60 per cent could potentially go, and that is a major concern."
