Port Taranaki body confirmed as missing man

New Plymouth police have confirmed the body found at Port Taranaki last night is Peter Stephen Jones.

Mr Jones, 45, had been missing since Sunday following a domestic incident in which he allegedly assaulted his partner.

He left the house before police arrived and was later seen at Paritutu Beach, 5km west of the city centre, about 2.30am.

Mr Jones and his partner left the United Kingdom to live in New Zealand five years ago.

The cause of death is still being investigated.
