Porsche is back in black with its second limited series Black Edition model.
Following the 911 Black Edition, this is the Boxster S Black Edition which goes on sale in New Zealand in April.
It is one of a limited run of just 987 cars worldwide.
Each car is finished in black and features the same, uprated version of the 3.4-litre flat-six that powers the Boxster Spyder.
It delivers 235kW at 7200rpm and 370Nm at 4750rpm - that means the Black Edition will sprint from zero to 100km/h in 5.2 seconds with a six-speed manual gearbox, 5.1 seconds if you opt for the seven-speed PDK twin-clutch box and just 4.9 seconds if you stump up for the Sport Chrono Package Plus.
But the increased output and performance does not come at the expense of fuel economy, says Porsche.
It claims the Black Edition does a town and around 9.8 litres/100km, identical to that of the Boxster S. The optional PDK cuts fuel use to a claimed 9.4 litres/100km.
The Boxster S Black Edition is on sale now, priced at $139,900 for six-speed manual and $145,900 for PDK. Deliveries begin late in April.
Other spec highlights include new lightweight 10-spoke 19-inch wheels, which shave 5kg from the car's kerbweight.
Black Edition cars all come with auto wipers, cruise control, sat-nav, auxiliary input for your MP3 player and uprated stereo, and xenon headlights. The full suite of options is still available, including Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB), Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and adaptive sports seats with memory function.
Added style comes from the array of all-black design touches: black body, black hood, black wheels, black side air intakes, black tailpipes, black roll-over bars, black instrument panel, painted black gear selector surround and black model designation on the rear boot lid.
Highlighting this open-top Porsche is the "Black Edition" model lettering on the stainless steel door entry guards, embossed Black Edition insignia on the fabric roof and Black Edition badge on the glove box lid.
