A 36-year-old man has internal injuries after being stabbed in the back while walking through Cannons Creek in Porirua.
Police said the stabbing happened on the corner of Windley and Champion Streets at about 11:50pm last night.
Porirua detective Gareth Barnes said the man was walking with a woman when he was attacked.
"As a result of the stabbing, the victim is in a stable condition in Wellington Hospital with internal injuries, which are not life threatening."
The victim is of Pacific descent, of solid build, short in height with a shaved head, while the woman he was walking with was Maori and of thin build.
