A Porirua man has been sentenced to life in prison after he murdered his former partner on her birthday, stabbing her more than 20 times.
Tony Tiumalu, 34, a painter from Porirua, was given a minimum non-parole period of 14 years in jail at the Wellington High Court today.
Tiumalu was found guilty on September 6 of murdering Susanna Lemina Brown on her 33rd birthday, in a parked car at Titahi Bay in February last year.
Ms Brown, who had broken up with Tiumaly shortly before the murder, died from massive blood loss and multiple stab wounds to the chest and back that perforated her heart.
