KEY POINTS:
Porirua's Aquatic Centre had to be evacuated this morning when fire broke out in the plant switch room.
One person was taken to hospital suffering smoke inhalation.
The fire was reported at 10.18am, Fire Service central communications spokesman David Meikle said.
The fire, though not big, was burning strongly when firefighters reached the centre.
Six appliances and 24 firefighters were at the scene and by 11.30am the fire was "pretty much contained".
Mr Meikle did not know how many people had been at the centre.
The cause is not yet known.
