The cream of young talent in the lower North Island take centre stage in Masterton at the weekend.
A record 138 teams are to do battle in the Douglas Villa club's junior tournament, 40 more than last year and 54 up on 2009.
The club had intended to make the cut at 114 but organiser Dave Wright said the response was so great they had increased it by 24, and still had "30 or so" teams on a waiting list.
"We absolutely hate turning teams away but there was no other alternative our resources couldn't have coped with any more."
Clubs from Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Wanganui, Kapiti, Hutt Valley, Wellington and Wairarapa are coming. Grades - some with 20 teams - range from seven to 13.
