Midweek women
The fine weather on Tuesday May 31 brought out the women's midweek players in force. In the stableford competition Marion Wylie won, on a countback from Sally Fairbrother, both with 32 points. Roz Harding was third with 30 points.
Four ball best ball 36 hole competition
The poor weather on Queen's Birthday Weekend was not enough to spoil on one of the major events on the Featherston Golf Club calendar - the Queen's Birthday 36 hole four ball best ball tournament. Twenty-two teams braved the cold wet conditions for the first round on Saturday June 4. Visitors from Martinborough were helping themselves to most of the leading positions.
Leading after the first round were: Gross: Lance Phelps and Jimmy Walker 69, Alf Sio and Mike Wren 71, and Wayne Phelps and Ash Reed 72. Net: Alf Sio and Mike Wren 61, Dave De Joux and Alex Walters 63, Chris Slaughter and Jeff Catchpole, and Wayne Phelps and Ash Reed on 64. Women Gross: Rhonda Williams and Sally Fairbrother 89, Net: Julie Dondertman and Shirley Poutu 68.
By Sunday and the completion of the second round, the leading players had changed only a little. Gross: Lance Phelps and Jimmy Walker 1, Wayne Phelps and Ash Reed 2, Brian Russo and Alistair Forrest 3. Twos Saturday Rob Walters, Alf Sio, Steve Reid, Chook, Terry Nunns, Lance Phelps, John Gray. Sunday Alistair Forrest (2), Dave De Joux, Bryan Rapley. Most honest Golfers Barry Johnson and Ray Matthews, and Marion Wylie and Deb Henderson.
Sunday stableford
Other than the four ball best ball, the Sunday competition was a stableford. The winners were Bob Gillespie 2with 42 points, Brian Russo and Neville Adamson 41, Eddie Dickinson 39, Ash Reed 38, and Pete Hawkins and Mark Anderson 37. The women's winner was Rhonda Williams 34 points. Twos were won by Dave de Joux and Brian Rapley.
Coming events
The last round of the Wellington Interclub competition will be held on Saturday June 11. The Club's 7th Division will be playing away at Karori, with the aim of maintaining their place in the standings.
The 10th Division have their last game at home against the powerful Manor Park team. While this team cannot save itself from the wooden spoon, there will be a sterling effort to achieve three wins in a row, and four wins in total for the year. The annual Interclub Challenge between the two interclub teams will be on Saturday June 25.
The second round of the Club Championships must be played by Sunday, June 12.
The draw for the Harry Puha Memorial Trophy has been posted and players are reminded that the first round must be played by June 19.
On Friday June 10 the women have the fourth Round of the Wairarapa interclub Riverside Cup, which will be played at Riversdale.
On Tuesday June 14 the second round of the Captain's Cup, a medal round will be played.
