Inadequate training facilities are hampering Wairarapa United in their bid to win the Capital division one soccer competition.
Lighting at their headquarters at Howard Booth Park is so poor their training sessions there are being held in a space which means that anything more than basic skills cannot be worked on.
Coach Phil Keinzley said plans were for the lighting to be enhanced some weeks ago and delays were having a negative effect on his team's performance.
"Right now we can't get any width into our training, we have to do everything in a confined space and that's very frustrating," he said. "You don't like to use it as an excuse for playing below par, but there's no question it is a hassle we could do without."
Wairarapa United go into their division one match against Naenae at Howard Booth Park tomorrow on the back of successive losses to Miramar Rangers and Lower Hut City, defeats which ended a long unbeaten run and saw them slip from the top of the points table to second, three points adrift of Western Suburbs.
Keinzley said his players were well aware they had let themselves down in their last two games .
"They know that their intensity wasn't good enough, that they lacked urgency you have to have to win games at this level, he said. "No one is making excuses, we simply didn't play anywhere near well enough to get the results we wanted."
While Wairarapa United beat Naenae comfortably enough in their first round clash Keinzley is anticipating a close contest on this occasion.
He bases his assessment on the fact that Naenae have shown steady improvement through most of the season and that they have a couple of talented Liverpool players in key positions
'They (Naenae) are a threat, there's no doubt about that," he said. "They will have taken confidence from our last two results and will be giving it everything they've got. We'll have to be right on our game to keep them down."
Assisting Wairarapa United's cause though is the fact they will be fielding very close to a full strength side with only Mirack Tvroch unavailable for selection.
