Masterton Disability spokesman Peter Knighton presented his chair hoist petition to Masterton District Council administration staff on Monday.
His petition had almost 800 signatures from the community.
Mr Knighton was told that for the council to consider getting a chair hoist for the Genesis Recreation Centre pool, he would have to collect 10 signatures from wheelchair-bound residents.
He said having a chair hoist at the centre would enable more use of the facilities by people on crutches or in wheelchairs, which was why he had pursued the issue.
When Mr Knighton handed the 10 mandatory signatures to customer administration support person Kylie Tobin he said, "But wait there's more," before handing over the sheets containing hundreds more.
