The Carterton Events Centre will take on shades of the Albert Hall when the Hutt Valley Orchestra brings Last Night of the Proms to the Wairarapa venue next month.
The grand event is set down for December 2 as a Kiwi tribute to the Land of Hope and Glory and will feature a blend of serious and light-hearted pieces by the orchestra, which will be joined onstage by Wellington-based soprano soloist Megan Corby.
The musical fare for the first half of the event will include Sibelius' Karelia Suite, In the Hall of the Mountain King from Grieg's Peer Gynt, and Over the Hills and Far Away by Delius.
In the second half conductor Brent Stewart introduces some traditional Proms favourites including Henry Wood's Fantasia on British Sea Songs, Jerusalem, and Pomp and Circumstance March No1.
Ms Corby will sing numbers including Rusalka's Song to the Moon by Dvorak, and also will lead the audience in Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory.
