Tai Poutini Polytechnic in Greymouth is scrapping tuition fees from next year for all courses offered on the West Coast.
Chief executive Don Campbell said yesterday that tuition fees would still be charged at the polytech's campuses in Auckland, Christchurch and Wanaka.
"Tai Poutini trebled its surplus to $2.5 million on an income of $16 million last year," Mr Campbell said.
"Our commitment is to returning the excellent financial results of 2003 to benefit the local community."
