A new poll shows the gap between Labour and National has widened, with National firmly in the lead.
The Roy Morgan poll, published today, said support for Labour fell 2 per cent to 35.5 per cent, 5.6 per cent below its 2005 election night result.
This result was Labour's worst, according to the results from this poll dating back to October 2005.
The poll showed support for the National Party was up one to 46 per cent support, 6.9 per cent above its election result.
This result puts the gap between National and Labour at 10.5.
Of the smaller parties, the Green Party was the only one to show a gain with today's poll putting it up 2 per cent to 9.5 per cent support.
Support for New Zealand First fell 0.5 per cent to 3.5 per cent.
The Maori Party was down one to 2.5 per cent support, United Future was down 0.5 per cent to 1 per cent support while ACT remained unchanged on 1 per cent.
Poll spokesman Gary Morgan said that under this poll the Labour Party would lose government if an election were held now.
The poll was carried out between March 19 and April 8 and sampled 792 voters.
