Labour's popularity has dropped 2 percentage points in the latest poll, but it still retains enough support at 51 per cent to form a government on its own if an election was held tonight.
National, however, improved to 30 per cent in the Television One/Colmar Brunton poll released yesterday, up 3 points from the last poll conducted from June 10-13.
ACT picked up 1 point to 5 per cent, while the losers were the Greens (down 2 points to 7 per cent) and the Progressive Coalition at 1 per cent, down 1 point.
Holding steady were NZ First at 3 per cent, Christian Heritage (3 per cent) and the Alliance (0.5 per cent).
The number of people undecided about how they would exercise their party vote increased by 3 points to 13 per cent.
Labour leader Helen Clark lost two points in the preferred prime minister stakes but remained highly popular at 50 per cent.
National's Bill English lost one point to stand at 16 per cent. The big mover was NZ First's Winston Peters, up 1 point to 5 per cent.
Approval for the Government remained steady at 61 per cent while disapproval increased 2 points to 25 per cent.
The poll sampled 1000 eligible voters nationwide and has a sampling error of plus of minus 3.2 per cent.
