A majority of people believe that Prime Minister John Key knew of internet tycoon Kim Dotcom before the FBI raided his Coatesville mansion in January last year, a poll shows.
Mr Key says he did not; Mr Dotcom says he did and will produce evidence at his hearing for extradition to the United States where he is accused of piracy.
A total of 52 per cent of respondents to TV3's Reid Research poll believe Mr Dotcom, 34 per cent believe Mr Key.
Mr Key put the difference down to lack of trust generally in politicians.
"Any number of surveys taken during the year will show you that the public are quite sceptical about what politicians say and I suspect there's a bit of that built into those poll numbers," he told TV3.
